Opening times
The fortifications and 17th-century military buildings are only accessible on guided tours. Thefortified village is open all year round, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Access and transport
Fortified village of Mont-Dauphin

By car
- From Briançon (35 minutes) : N94 then D37 towards Mont-Dauphin.
- From Gap (1 hour) : N94 then D37 towards Mont-Dauphin.
By train
Mont-Dauphin - Guillestre station.
You can then walk to Mont-Dauphin along the Marmot Trail. To do this: when you leave the station, go straight on to join the N94, then turn right onto this road towards Gap. At the Auberge d'Eygliers, cross the road to join the marmot trail (signposted).
Allow around 45 minutes for this route. Walking shoes are required.
By shuttle bus
In summer, there is a free shuttle bus service to the village of Mont-Dauphin, with stops at the Guillestre bus station, the Guillestre campsites, the Eygliers lake and the Mont-Dauphin-Gillestre SNCF station .
Services and visiting conditions
- Compulsory car and coach parking (free) outside the village (about 300 metres away).
- Bookshop open all year round, craftsmen and restaurants in summer.
- Toilets.
- Free access to the ramparts can be dangerous: beware of falls.
- Bicycles are allowed inside the village: bike racks available near the main buildings.
- Picnic area and children's play area in the "Plantation" wooded area.
- Hire for tourist accommodation and events inside the fortified village.
- Dogs on leads welcome.
- Appropriate dress (no shirtlessness, no bare feet and no swimming costumes).
- Pushchairs permitted
- In very hot weather, please bring a water bottle (there are fountains in the village) and a hat.
- Smoking is prohibited throughout the site, both inside and outside the monument. Pursuant to decree no. 2025-582 of 27 June 2025 on smoke-free areas, collective outdoor areas where children and teenagers may be present or exposed, in particular public parks and gardens, become smoke-free areas.
Accessibility
The guided tour covers a distance of 1.5 kilometres, with some forty steps and outdoor stops. Visitors should bring appropriate equipment for the time of year (closed shoes, water bottle, hat, etc.).
Access to the "Little Bighorn, by Ousmane Sow" exhibition is by staircase only.
Four disabled parking spaces are available inside the village. They are indicated on the map available to download from this page.
