Designed by Louis XIV to protect the Alpine frontier, the stronghold of Mont-Dauphin crowns a rocky promontory at the junction of the Guil and Durance valleys, in a cirque of mountains.
The Mont-Dauphin plateau rises to an altitude of 1050 metres, offering 360° panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. From the ramparts of the fortified village, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Écrins massif, the Durance valley, the Guillestre plateau and the Guil gorges.
Located in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes department, which enjoys a dry, sunny climate all year round, the fortified village of Mont-Dauphin is a pleasant place to visit in any season.
